Meghan Markle is worried Prince Harry’s family ‘truth bombs’ will lose them their royal titles, a source says.
Despite not working for the Royal Family since January 2020, an insider claims Meghan, 39, is determined to remain Duchess of Sussex.
The former Suits actress was bestowed the royal title after marrying Prince Harry in 2018 but now fears further criticism of Harry’s family would end in the pair being stripped of them, a source told Heat Magazine.
Having used the Sussex name in recent public life, including Meghan’s children’s book The Bench, having it revoked could be a ‘PR disaster’.
Someone close to Meghan told Heat Magazine: “She’s told Harry that they need to tone down the attacks on the royal family – she’s afraid they’ll take away their royal titles, which would be a PR disaster.
“Right now, she’s inundated with offers, and that’s in part to being a Duchess.”
It comes after Harry, 36, dropped a number of ‘truth bombs’ about his relatives in bombshell Oprah Winfrey documentary The Me You Can’t See.
Harry made a number of digs at his close family members as she spoke about how his time in ‘The Firm’ had impacted his mental health.
He told cameras: “My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to both William and I, ‘Well it was like that for me so it’s going to be like that for you. That doesn’t make sense.
“Just because you suffered doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite – if you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences you had, that you can make it right for your kids.”
Harry also claimed that his family told him to “play the game” when he admitted his struggles with royal life.
Weeks after Megxit was first announced in January 2020, Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming that Harry and Meghan would step back from official royal duties.
And he will no longer use the titles His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness – but they would continue to use the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Clearing up rumours about what the split would involve, the clarification read: “With The Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations.
“While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty.
The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”
