Boris Johnson’s recent resignation means there will need to be a new Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader, but it also means the Queen’s summer holiday to Balmoral will be interrupted.
Every year Her Majesty The Queen spends a mini break in Scotland at her retreat in Balmoral Castle. Starting in July, the two month holiday usually lasts until October before she returns to Buckingham Palace.
When a new leader is elected, it is traditional for them to have a private meeting with The Queen in Buckingham Palace, known as the audience, where the individual and The Queen ‘kiss hands.’
Woman & Home reported that The Queen will have to travel down back to London by September 5th to either meet Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss, who are both running to be the next Conservative Leader.
In previous royal events, Prince Charles has taken responsibility for some of The Queen’s roles, including the most recent opening ceremony of The 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The new leader of the Conservative Party will be announced on September 5.
